bond beams

A bond beam refers to a horizontal masonry ‘header’ or structural component that provides additional bridging support above wall openings areas that dont have floor or roof support. A bond beam is commonly made up of a “U” shaped block which is filled with grout and horizontal rebar reinforcement  that often ties to vertical rebar reinforcement. A bond beam is also commonly located at or near the top of a freestanding masonry wall and/or at intermediary elevations in the wall providing additional structural rigidity, tnesile/flexural strength, and can also provide a structurally secure point for anchorage.
