Suspect my neighbor has an old fuel tank near my property line..

I live next to a farmer and I suspect he has an old abandoned fuel tank buried below grade near my property line. I have well water. i don't want to get anybody in trouble or start a big legal battle, but I also don't want this thing to contaminate my family's drinking water. What should I do?
