removing carpet

When removing carpet you’ll want to run a utility knife along cutting the carpet into manageable rows first. Don’t allow the knife to cut too low or you run the risk of scarring the floor or subfloor below. Pull up the carpet and the padding underneath, this can typically be done with one person fairly easily but if not, have a second person help pry as you pull. After the carpet is removed, pull up the padding staples with pliers and dispose.

Glued down carpet on the other hand can be significantly more difficult to remove by hand. This type of situation will typically warrant a floor stripping machine to separate the carpet from the floor.
